Mining & Resources

Passive fire protection for operating sites, a long way from town.

Overview

Fire Rated Systems has project experience across resources, grain handling and industrial facilities in Western Australia. Work in operating plants can involve permit systems, restricted access, inductions, remote mobilisation, shutdown windows, congested services, heavy interfaces with other trades, and work areas that cannot simply be handed to one contractor. The passive fire detail still has to be supported by the actual test evidence, but the delivery plan has to work in the real facility.

01

What you get from us

  • Structural steel fire protection — sprayed, cementitious, intumescent and board systems.
  • Service penetration fire stopping, including mixed and congested services where the test evidence supports it.
  • Fire-resisting ducts, dampers, cable transits and enclosures.
  • Fire doors, specialist doorsets and associated inspection or rectification.
  • Defect rectification from consultant or owner registers across several passive-fire systems.
  • Project records and handover information matched to the agreed site and contract requirements.
02

The conditions we plan for

  • Permit and induction systems — We establish these at enquiry stage and build them into the programme, so mobilisation is not spent getting people through the gate.
  • Shutdown or isolation windows — We plan to what the site can actually provide, and size the scope to close out inside it.
  • Remote or regional site — Travel, accommodation, access and material logistics are all in the price before you see it, with contingency for the component that would otherwise cost a second trip.
  • High service density — We work from drawings, photographs and service information to separate the repeatable details from the exceptions, so you are priced on volume where it is volume.
  • Existing or damaged fire protection — We identify the existing system and material before repairing it, and where asbestos is suspected we resolve that first under our own Class A and Class B licences rather than bringing in a second contractor.

We mobilise once and finish

Passive fire work on an operating mine is rarely difficult in itself. What makes it hard is everything around it — remote mobilisation where a forgotten component costs days rather than an hour, shutdown windows you do not get a second run at, inductions and permits before anyone touches anything, and records that have to be right the first time because nobody is driving eight hours back to photograph a penetration.

That is the part we are good at. We scope it before we travel, go up with the materials and the people to finish it, and leave with the records complete.

We work on operating mine sites across Western Australia — switchrooms, control buildings, accommodation, process and plant buildings — on scopes that are usually measured in days rather than months, and repeated across sites and across shutdowns.

04

You leave with the certificate, not a promise of one

Everything we install leaves with a Certificate of Compliance, and a rectification leaves with one covering the items we repaired. On a remote site that matters more than usual — it is the record that stops the same question being asked at the next audit.

05

Where we have worked

Karara — fire stopping to electrical substations.

Boddington Gold Mine — replacement of all fire doors.

Cloud Break — replacement of switch room fire doors.

Worsley, Collie — ongoing passive fire maintenance.

Iron ore, gold and alumina, across substations, switch rooms and accommodation — and in most cases the same client again on the next site.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you work on operating sites?
Yes. Exact permits, access and shutdown arrangements are site-specific.
Can you mobilise to regional WA?
Tell us where the site is and we will tell you straight whether we can service it and what mobilisation looks like. Location is priced properly at enquiry stage rather than assumed.
Can you work across several passive-fire systems in one shutdown?
Potentially. The programme is coordinated through the rectification or project path, while each system keeps its own technical evidence requirements.
Can you substitute one product for another to meet a shutdown?
Only where the evidence supports the substitute in that condition. It is a technical question rather than a scheduling one, so it goes to Design & Technical Support and comes back with an answer you can put in the shutdown pack.

Drawings, photos or a defect report in front of you?

Send what you already have. We will tell you what else is needed before the work can be reviewed, priced or booked for site inspection.
