Healthcare

Passive fire protection for wards that cannot be closed.

Overview

Fire Rated Systems has project experience across hospitals and healthcare facilities in Western Australia. In live clinical environments the passive fire scope is only one part of the job: access, occupied areas, permits, shutdown windows, staging and handover all have to be planned around the facility's real operation. That experience sits alongside new construction and refurbishment, where the same discipline applies to coordination, tested-system evidence and completion records.

01

We work around the facility, area by area

An occupied clinical area cannot be treated like an empty shell. We plan the programme around who uses the space, what can genuinely be isolated, when access is available and how the work is staged — then hand each area back sealed, certified and recorded before moving to the next one. You get the separation restored without closing a ward to get it.

02

Where we have worked

Hospitals: Fremantle, Sir Charles Gairdner, Perth Children's, King Edward Memorial in Subiaco, Broome, Geraldton, Narrogin, Collie and Boddington. Aged care: Morrison Lodge, Tuohy Lodge and Ray Village, and work across the Baptistcare group. That is a portion of it, metropolitan and regional, and it includes the country hospitals where the nearest alternative bed is a long drive away and the ward simply does not close.

Country sites change the planning more than the work. The crew, the doorsets and the materials all have to arrive together and be right, because a second trip to Broome is not a half-day's inconvenience.

03

What you get from us

  • Fire doors and doorsets, including inspection, repair, replacement and project packages.
  • Service penetrations and fire stopping around electrical, plumbing and mechanical services.
  • Passive fire inspection, baseline information and staged defect rectification.
  • Structural protection, ducts, dampers, cable transits and fire-rated enclosures.
  • Drawing, site-condition and technical coordination before work is committed.
  • QA photographs, asset information and handover records to the agreed project scope.
04

The conditions we plan for

  • Occupied areas — Plan access and staging around the facility's operation and the conditions attached to the agreed work area.
  • Restricted shutdowns — Identify interfaces early. Do not assume a service can be isolated because the passive-fire detail would be easier that way.
  • Existing records do not match site — Separate what is observed from what the documents say, then route the mismatch to technical review.
  • Old building fabric — Ask the material question before intrusive work. Nothing intrusive starts in an older building until the material is settled.
  • Large defect register — We work from the report you already have and stage it, rather than charging you to survey the building twice.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in operating hospitals?
Yes, and that is how healthcare work normally runs. Access, permits, staging and any shutdown are agreed with the facility before we mobilise, so the programme fits how the building actually runs.
Can you work from an existing defect report?
Yes — send it as it stands, with whatever records you have. We keep your original wording, map each item to a system and a location, group the repeat items so they price as volume, and pull out the few that need technical review. You get a staged programme back, not a fresh survey bill.
Does the ward have to close while you work?
Usually not. We work area by area around the facility's own staging, and hand each one back sealed and recorded before moving on. Where a particular scope genuinely needs an isolation we tell you at pricing, so you can plan it rather than discover it.

Drawings, photos or a defect report in front of you?

Send what you already have. We will tell you what else is needed before the work can be reviewed, priced or booked for site inspection.
