Industrial & Manufacturing
Passive fire protection for plants that cannot stop producing.
Overview
Factories, manufacturing facilities, processing plants, workshops, distribution facilities, cold storage and food production. The buildings are large, the services are heavy, and the plant inside them is worth more than the building.
We plan the scope around your production schedule and shutdown window, work to the hygiene or containment rules that apply in the space, and certify what we complete. You get the separation restored without buying downtime to get it.
We arrive ready for the shutdown
On a plant that runs continuously, passive fire work happens during a planned shutdown alongside every other trade with a claim on the same days. We survey ahead of the window and turn up with the scope confirmed, materials on site, access agreed and permits in hand — so the days you paid for go into the work rather than into getting ready.
Where the work has to happen during production, the limit is usually isolation and hot works rather than the passive fire detail. We confirm that before pricing, so the method you are quoted is one the plant will actually allow.
We protect the electrical infrastructure first
Most of the fire-rated construction in an industrial building is protecting the electrical infrastructure: switchrooms, MCC rooms, cable risers and control buildings. They are dense with cable, added to constantly, and the first place an audit finds unsealed penetrations. We seal them, tag them and record them against their location, so the next audit is a document check rather than another survey.
What you get from us
- Penetration sealing and rectification in switchrooms, MCC rooms, control buildings and cable risers.
- Fire doors to plant rooms, switchrooms, stores and offices within the plant.
- Structural fire protection to steel where the project requires it.
- Duct protection and dampers where mechanical services cross a rated boundary.
- Baseline surveys ahead of a shutdown, so the scope is known before the window opens.
- Defect rectification planned against the production calendar.
The conditions we plan for
- Shutdown windows — Fixed, shared with other trades, and unforgiving. Scope confirmed well before it opens.
- Hygiene and food safety zones — In food production the access rules, materials and cleaning requirements are as binding as the fire detail.
- Cold storage — Working temperatures, insulated panel construction and condensation all affect what can be installed and how.
- Permits and isolation — Hot works, confined space and electrical isolation are planned before mobilisation, not on the day.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
- Can you work during production?
- Sometimes, in areas that can be separated and where no isolation is needed. Anything else waits for the shutdown.
- Do you work in food production areas?
- Yes, to the site's hygiene requirements. Those requirements are agreed before mobilisation because they affect materials and method.
- Can you survey ahead of a shutdown?
- Yes, and it is the single most useful thing you can do. A known scope is the difference between using the window and losing it.
- Do you do structural steel protection?
- Yes, using systems supported by test or assessment evidence for the actual condition.
