Fire doors · Identification
What does a fire door tag tell you?
A tag can help identify a fire doorset and connect it to records, but a tag on its own does not prove the current installation is acceptable. The door may have been altered after it was tagged.
What changes the answer
- tag format and era
- manufacturer or system
- building records
- later hardware changes
- leaf or frame replacement
- legibility and consistency between components.
What to check on site
- photograph the tag square-on
- record all visible numbers and text
- photograph the entire leaf and frame
- compare the tag against schedules or asset records
- look for later drilling, hardware or glazing changes.
What to do next
If the tag is missing or unreadable, treat that as an evidence gap. Do not infer the door's identity from its appearance.
General information only. A conclusion about a specific condition requires the actual construction, the evidence behind it and the site condition to be reviewed.
