Can a fire door be repaired?

Short answer

Sometimes. A repair is only a good answer when the defect is understood and the repair method is supported for the actual doorset and the component involved.

What changes the answer

  • type and extent of damage
  • leaf and frame construction
  • location of the damage
  • hardware affected
  • manufacturer or system evidence
  • previous modifications
  • cost and certainty compared with replacement.

What to check on site

  • photograph the damage at context and close-up scale
  • identify the tag or system where possible
  • list the hardware fitted
  • check whether the frame or wall is also damaged
  • record any earlier repair.

What to do next

We first establish whether a supported repair path exists. If it does not, the condition moves to further technical review or to replacement pricing.

General information only. A conclusion about a specific condition requires the actual construction, the evidence behind it and the site condition to be reviewed.
